Our Competitive Advantages
ATOX, which started its operations half a century ago as a maintenance company for the first nuclear facility in Japan, has evolved into an integrated engineering company that provides comprehensive maintenance services for nuclear power plants around the country. In addition, we are steadily working to commercialize state-of-the-art medical equipment by leveraging our experience and expertise in radiological technologies amassed through years of R&D.
More

Our Assets
What makes ATOX's services dependable and reliable is our engineering prowess honed through years of hands-on project experience and our teams of highly skilled engineers. Our Engineering Research & Development Center is tasked with developing a wide range of new technical solutions, while our Technical Training Centers train employees to acquire engineering skills and qualifications through extensive training programs.
We leverage our human and technology assets to provide higher quality services.
ATOX's corporate philosophy is to play an instrumental role in addressing environmental and energy issues to help achieve a sustainable society and promote employees' well-being. We were the first in the private sector in Japan to be contracted to decontaminate a nuclear facility half a century ago. Since then, we have built a solid track record in providing reliable, comprehensive maintenance services for nuclear facilities around the country.

Nuclear Power Plant Maintenance Business
The Nuclear Power Plant Maintenance Business, which is our core business, involves the provision of comprehensive maintenance services for nuclear power plants, including radiological control, disposal of radioactive waste, equipment installation, facility management, facility cleaning and decontamination, and dismantling of nuclear power plants.

Nuclear Fuel-Cycling Business
The Nuclear Fuel-Cycling Business involves the operation and maintenance of nuclear fuel reprocessing plants, maintenance of uranium enrichment facilities, and maintenance of radioactive waste disposal facilities and interim storage facilities.

Fukushima Reconstruction Project
We provide technical assistance and know-how to the decommissioning project for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Since the March 2011 accident, our on-site service engineers have been operating and maintaining a contaminated water processing facility and conducting radiological control and environmental improvement tasks. We also conduct radiological control of an interim storage facility located in Fukushima Prefecture.

RI and Life Science Business
Leveraging our know-how in handling radioactive isotopes (RI), we provide technical assistance to research institutions and companies that operate RI research facilities.In addition, we are making inroads into the field of nuclear medicine, conducting R&D for the commercial application of an inexpensive, compact, and highly sensitive PET (positron emission tomography) brain-scanning helmet designed to diagnose dementia.

Equipment Business
ATOX sells equipment and supplies for use in nuclear and RI facilities, such as remote manipulators, radiation-tolerant cameras, and radiation-protective gear.

Medical Device
ATOX co-developed with National Institute for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology the world's first Helmet-type PET. By arranging detectors in a hemispherical shape so that they are close to the patients, this device offers a high-resolution image in spite of its small number of detectors.

Interview of ATOX's president Toshikazu Yaguchi was published in "Newsweek International".
Toshikazu Yaguchi, ATOX's president, was interviewed by the UK news agency, The Worldfolio on April 7, 2022. The article of the interview was published in "Newsweek International" issued on June 17 and also The Worldfolio web site.

Joint Press Conference Held by QST and ATOX for Brain-dedicated PET (Vrain) Launch
Press conference for Brain-dedicated PET (product name "Vrain") was held at the National Institute for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (hereinafter called QST) on January 18, 2022. From QST, Dr. Takashi Nakano (Managing Director of Quantum Life and Medical Science Directorate) and Dr. Taiga Yamaya (Group Leader of Imaging Physics Group), and from ATOX, President Toshikazu Yaguchi and Executive Managing Director Satoshi Ueda attended the conference, and the world's first hemispherical PET system was introduced.

Video for Aerial Vehicle Released
Training session was held for operating aerial vehicle towards the decontamination work of operation floor in nuclear reactor building in Unit 2 of Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station. Video is now available on TEPCO's website "Photo & Video Library".

Business Transfer Agreement on Nuclear Power Business
ATOX and Kawasaki Heavy Industries concluded a Business Transfer Agreement. ATOX takes over KHI's nuclear power business.

Our Engineering Research & Development Center, located in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, plays a central role in conducting R&D projects, and is a base for launching more sophisticated services through R&D in new fields. In addition, the center is working on technologies to be used for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant as well as for the dismantling of nuclear facilities.
More
Our Technical Training Centers, located on the premises of the Fukushima Branch Office and the Engineering Research & Development Center in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, train our service engineers in standard operating procedures and in a wide range of technical skills required to provide reliable, high-quality services to customers. These centers play an important role in talent development for ATOX.
MoreOur Challenges
Our Engineering Research & Development Center
has been playing a central role in developing a broad range of technologies used to keep nuclear facilities running safely and reliably;
to measure, analyze, and evaluate working environments in nuclear facilities;
to remotely decontaminate surfaces; and to dispose of contaminated water and waste.
