ATOX Fukushima Reconstruction Branch received Letter of Appreciation from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has awarded a Letter of Appreciation to an ATOX work team for its outstanding achievement in decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and for measures implemented to deal with contaminated water. Along with ATOX, four other companies were also awarded a Letter of Appreciation.
This award expresses the Ministry’s appreciation for “Dose Reduction Work to Remove Stagnant Water from Unit 1 Turbine Building,” implemented from December 2015 to December 2016. A compact robot (RACCOON) capable of passing through narrow passageways inside the building was developed to perform decontamination by remote control. This operation made it possible to reduce the radiation dose in the area where it was necessary to install a drainage pump to pump out stagnant water.
ANADEC, a joint venture between ATOX and Orano of France, was also awarded a Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Letter of Appreciation for its contribution to a team of companies engaged in an “Internal Investigation of Unit 2 and 3 Reactor Containment Vessels.”
